Seed to Table Co-coordinator
Seed to table is a dynamic new youth-centered food security initiative launching in East Scarborough this spring. The program brings together food education, cooking and gardening skills and leadership training to fuel a youth-led food movement in the city.
We are looking for a co-coordinator to assist with program development and implementation during a 4+ month position, from the end of April until the beginning of September, with the potential for extension. The position is for 25 hours/wk at $12-15/hr depending on funding and the qualifications of the applicant. APPLICATION DEADLINE APRIL 9th 2010
You will:
- Assist with program curriculum development and implementation, including sections on food literacy, gardening, healthy cooking, and leadership training
- Assist with planting and maintaining a youth community garden plot
- facilitate or co-facilitate workshops
- Assist youth in developing social enterprise opportunities and compiling a database of internship opportunities for program participants
- help strengthen the Seed to Table Network throughout the GTA, exploring best practices and skill sharing with partner organizations, community groups and other food-related projects.
- Assist with outreach and recruitment of participants
- Lead project documentation, including video, photography and written reporting for the project
- Organize community harvest festival and other events to bring our program to the wider community
You have:
- Experience working with youth and/or an understanding of the specific challenges and opportunities youth face.
- An interest in gardening, healthy eating and living (you don’t need to be an expert, just have an interest and willingness to learn)
- Experience with group facilitation
- Strong Leadership skills; ability to engage the people
- Media arts (video, web) skills would be a bonus
- Priority will be given to applicants from the Kingston-Galloway/Orton Park or surrounding communities
