This fall we reflected on many different images about stewardship in the church.  The description of the stained-glass window in our sanctuary by the artist Stephen Taylor Bulbsindicates “over the flames, symbolizing both the fire that consumed the previous building and the Holy Spirit, is the chalice which speaks of new life. Within the chalice an opening bulb proclaims the resurrection.”

In our conversation about the ministry needs at St. Mark's, we reflected about that image of the bulb in the middle. In this fall season, moving towards winter, we think of those bulbs that are planted and dug into the earth on a cold afternoon, uncertain of exactly which color we are planting, but knowing that come spring, there will be signs of new life.

On November 10, Loreen Naylor spoke to members of St. Mark's who are serving as members of the various Ministry Teams.  These teams seek to live out our mission.

Loreen was both interesting and inspirational. She spoke of her experiences and understandings of stewardship.  There have been many requests for a printed version of her presentation.  She has graciously provided it for us to share.  [Read it here]

For our stewardship service on November 20, 4 members of our congregation, including 2 members of our confirmation class, were asked to reflect on why the church is important to them.  They were given this direction: "We are hoping that each reflection could be built on a verse of a favourite hymn that we will sing before you each speak. That verse would be one that is a favourite verses of a hymn that connect us or relates strongly to you."  Each of them spoke from their heart and we are grateful for their contributions.
