“Indigenous Peoples: Land Rights, Right Relations”
Whose Land it is anyway? Why can’t we just get along?
Why are Indigenous people in Canada still the most impoverished, the least healthy and the most imprisoned? The answer to this troubling question lies beyond the injustices of the past. Elders point to ongoing rights violations, in particular the fundamental right of self-determination.
Self-determination includes the right to determine what happens to your land and resources. Securing an adequate land and resource base is key to repairing the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada today.
Learn how land rights relate both to the history of injustice and to the hope for the future. This workshop is a part of the KAIROS 2010 – 2011 campaign: The Land, Our Life: Indigenous Rights and Our Common Future.
